Approaches towards a sustainable resin replacement

Chitosan is a part of the project „Design a sustainable value chain“ supervised by Tjeerd Veenhoven.

This intervention deals with the use of chitosan. Chitosan is a biopolymer with various fascinating characteristics and can be found as chitin in shellfishes, molluscs, mushrooms and insects. Chitosan can both be used as composite material and glue, replacing epoxy resin, and as a material itself, for instance by moulding it into foil products. The vastness of application areas enhances the value of the material by a great margin.

This project was shown at Dutch Design Week 2017 and Nature 2.0 at Le Pass.
